PIA Pilot Invites Chinese Lady Into Cockpit During Flight

The lady was in the cockpit area for around 30 minutes, while the crew was asked to leave the area during that period, putting the lives of all the passengers at risk. Some reports suggest that the lady was alone with the pilot and the first officer for over 2 hours.

Pakistan, Iran Agree to Trade in Euro and Yen

State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and Bank Markazi Jomhouri Islami Iran (BMJII) have devised a payment settlement mechanism to settle trade transactions between the two countries, a statement issued by the central bank said.

The mechanism will be available as an additional mode and does not restrict the use of other permissible mechanisms for settlement of the trade transactions.
This mechanism will be available for the payment of goods and services traded between Pakistan and Iran. Accordingly, transactions eligible for settlement under this mechanism will be denominated in Euro or JPY and based only on documentary Letter of Credits (L/Cs) conforming to the Uniform Customs and Practice for Documentary Credits UCP 600 published by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC).
Last month, the central banks of both countries signed an agreement towards development of payment settlement mechanism.
Modus Operandi The modus operandi for processing of transactions under this mechanism will be as under: Payment of Imports by Pakistan: Importer’s bank in Pakistan will credit the foreign exchange (i.e. amount due under L/C) in Nostro account of SBP for onward payment to the exporter in Iran and inform the same to SBP as per format attached as Annexure-A.
On confirmation of receipt of funds in Nostro account, SBP will instruct BMJII to pay the exporter’s bank for onward payment to exporter in Iran. Receipt of Funds Against Exports from Pakistan: On receiving payment instructions from importer’s bank in Iran, BMJII will instruct SBP to make payment in Pakistan. SBP, on receiving the instructions from BMJII, will credit the Nostro account of exporter’s bank in Pakistan in FCY.
Participating banks shall ensure that transactions conducted under this mechanism are not proscribed and do not involve individuals/entities proscribed under international sanctions.
Execution of transactions under this mechanism will be subject to compliance of all applicable foreign exchange rules and regulations.
The Authorized Dealers including commercial banks interested to work under this mechanism, are advised to State Bank of Pakistan by May 31, 2017.

PTA Monitored and Blocked 1660 Blasphemous Links/Sites

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has blocked access to 1660 links/sites containing blasphemous contents on social media so far.

This was revealed by PTA officials while briefing the National Assembly Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunication. The committee met with Cap (R) Muhammad Safdar in the chair here on Tuesday.
The officials revealed that 3900 complaints have so far been received while after through examination/ investigation action was taken on 1660 website in total.
Islamabad High Court had directed PTA for evolving a mechanism to eliminate blasphemous material on social media and ensure that scientific mechanism is evolved to bring awareness about blasphemy and pornography.
PTA had taken several steps even before the matter was taken up by the honorable courts. Facebook had been requested to block the reported content and the relevant accounts. Facebook on several occasions took out the material. However, due to the nature of social media, new accounts were created with similar content.
These accounts were reported to Facebook and they did take out some action but not to the satisfaction of PTA. Keeping this in mind, Chairman PTA met Facebook senior officials in Barcelona (Spain) during the sidelines of the Mobile World Congress and highlighted this matter in the strongest possible terms and sought their cooperation.
Resultantly, Facebook started cooperating fully by removing and blocking reported content for Pakistan. There were 02 Facebook accounts mentioned by Islamabad High Court with the name “Behnsa” and “Machar” which were searched by PTA and additionally 08 other pages were also identified with similar names containing blasphemous content. The same were reported to Facebook and were blocked for Pakistani viewership. Besides that, PTA has also searched, identified and blocked 12,968 websites containing blasphemous content till April, 2017.
In addition to the above PTA has developed an electronic portal to facilitate stakeholders to lodge complaints relating to any objectionable web content. An email address is also advertised in the media facilitating general public to inform PTA about any blasphemous content. Email address is info@pta.gov.pk. In this regard around more than 3900 complaints have been received so far which were disposed of accordingly.
A research cell comprising of 25 IT personnel has been developed by PTA who proactively search blasphemous content and take action as per SOP.
Blasphemous material being uploaded on internet is in different forms i.e. literature, pictures, audio, video etc. Therefore identification of blasphemous material without human intervention is not possible. As already mentioned above PTA has deployed a team of 25 personnel for the purpose and so far PTA has blocked around 12,968 such links. Given the fact that a huge amount of content is being produced every minute and is uploaded on the internet, it is almost impossible to restrict and block any one or more of the content categories completely.
The Interior Minister called a meeting on 09-03-2017 and 15-03-2017 where Chairman and Member PTA respectively explained the whole issue. Chairman was directed by the Interior Minister to contact the senior management of Facebook and to invite them to visit Pakistan. The same was complied with and as a result Facebook has shown willingness to come to Pakistan and have assured cooperation. Since 26th Feb 2017, 137 blasphemous links have been blocked by Facebook administration for viewership in Pakistan.
PTA and MoIT have been in touch with social media platforms. These issues are being highlighted to them. Technical solutions are also being explored.
A meeting of Government Officials with Facebook representatives has been convened on 7th April 2017 through video link in-order to finalize the modalities and agenda for their visit to Pakistan.
During the meeting Facebook has been informed they should consider declaring blasphemous material against their global policies and inform users not to post such material on its platform. Facebook Inc was also asked to help Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) in Pakistan by providing them with the requisite data that they asked for. Facebook reiterated their commitment towards removal/blocking of the blasphemous and objectionable content and assured that they will improve the response time. They informed the participants of the meeting that they will continue to respect the local laws.
Regarding the help extended to LEAs, they mentioned that they received around 1000 requests in 2016 from Pakistan and about 70% of them have been complied with and that they will continue to support such requests. Visit of Facebook’s senior management to Pakistan is somewhere in May 2017.
Broadcasting of a short message to all Cellular Mobile Subscribers through their respective networks for awareness about uploading/spreading of blasphemous material on internet and its repercussions under the law is under process.

NA Body Proposes Minimum Levy on Software Export Companies

The National Assembly Standing on Information Technology and Telecommunication has proposed a minimum levy on the software export companies.

The Committee met with Capt (R) Muhammad Safdar in the chair.
MNA Syed Ali Raza Abidi proposed to impose a minimum levy on the pattern collected from other export oriented sectors.
The proposal was supported by the committee chairman while saying there should be a minimum levy on the software exports companies.
Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication and MNA Farhana Qamar, however, opposed the proposal while saying that it would discourage the investors from investment in the IT sector.
A final decision will be taken by the government while drafting the budget for year 2017-18.
The sub-Committee of the Standing Committee on Information Technology & Telecommunication presented its report regarding “Performance of Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB)”.
The Sub-Committee examined the performance of the Pakistan Software Export Board and made the following recommendations: –

The Committee recommended that six posts of Directors in Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) to be reduced and replaced with only one director. If felt necessary, five posts of directors could be replaced with Managers; who could work under the supervision of a single Director.
The Committee directed the Authority of PSEB that criteria of qualification — as per rules & regulations of the organization — must be followed at the time of recruitment of the post of Director.
The Committee directed that the Authority of PSEB must finalize the running projects/dealing within given time to make the organization more profitable and professional.
The Committee directed that PSEB should maintain strong base to attract local/ foreign investors to increase the IT exports and — to develop public awareness in this field — should use social media along with foreign visits/exhibitions/seminars etc.
The Committee recommended that PSEB should use Commercial Counselor abroad to increase the links and contracts with the foreign IT companies for getting their investment in Pakistan.
The Committee directed PSEB to involve Pakistani youth i.e. I.T Graduates in the exploration of their talent through PSEB which would also increase the capacity building and standard of the organization.
The Committee acknowledged that under construction I.T Parks will not yield results without I.T software experts.

USF to Distribute 18,000 Smartphones Without Any Research Work!

The Universal Service Fund Company (USF), under the directions of Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, is all set to distribute 18,000 smartphones worth millions of rupees with mobile balance among the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) without doing any research work.

This was revealed by the Ministry officials while briefing the National Assembly Standing committee on Information Technology and Telecommunication.
USF officials informed that a pilot project has been framed under which 18,000 smart phones would be distributed among the BISP beneficiaries.
However, when parliamentarians asked about the rational, logic and research behind the project, officials informed that the idea was to make the phone affordable for BSIP beneficiaries.
Further BISP beneficiary could use it for communication purposes. However, they admitted that no research was conducted and entire project was merely based on proposals.
The committee also raised several questions on the collection, utilization of over Rs. 100 billion Universal Service Fund (USF) and role of Finance Ministry in its utilization as some parliamentarians stated that it is allegedly reflected in foreign reserves.
Capt (R) Muhammad Safdar repeatedly asked the Ministry officials about the actual amount collected in the Fund; however, Ministry officials remained mum. MNA Syed Ali Raza Abidi said that it is reportedly around $2 billion.
Chairman expressed doubts about the collection and utilization of the USF.
“When we came into the government, the USF money was around Rs 60 billion, which is currently around Rs. 100 billion”, said Safdar, adding that nobody knows about its where about.
Committee chairman said that the USF money could be converted into dollars to make a lot of money, while and because no one knows about where its stashed.
“Further it can be parked in an account against which government can borrow huge loans, as the Company lacks the capacity to utilize it”, the chairman added.
Shahzia Marri said that Finance Minister reportedly take decisions about the utilization of USF. If government has no role and since its not government’s money then how can Finance Minister take decision about the utilization of USF, she asked.
The committee directed the Ministry for giving complete details of USF collection and utilization in next meeting.

Facebook Has Removed 85% Blasphemous Content: Interior Ministry

Interior Ministry informed the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday that Facebook has been removing blasphemous content on Pakistan’s request.

Interior Secretary Arif Khan said in his report that the social networking site had responded to the ministry’s letter, and already removed 85 percent of the blasphemous content.
Mr Khan further revealed that three suspects had been taken into custody as part of the online blasphemy probe. Two of them were directly involved in posting blasphemous material that had also been discovered from their laptops and cell phones by law enforcers. A joint interrogation team is looking further into the matter.
Suspending Facebook in Pakistan, Mr Khan reiterated, is not the solution to the problem, especially since Facebook has been cooperating with the government. Facebook had earlier decided to send a delegation to Pakistan to investigate the content deemed blasphemous.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Chairman Ismael Shah said in court that a 25-member team has been searching blasphemous content online, and that action has been taken against 40 such pages.
IHC Chief Justice Shaukat Siddiqui, in his remarks, praised the government for hosting a meeting of 27 ambassadors from Muslim countries in which a strategy was proposed for dealing with blasphemous content on social media. However, he inquired as to why the ambassador of the country where the offence originated, was not invited. The Interior Secretary responded that Pakistan’s embassy in Washington was taking the matter further there.
Juctice Siddiqui also voiced displeasure over the lack of other ministries in pursuing this matter.
“Where are IT expert[s], Ahsan Iqabal, Minister for Religious Affairs? The entire government has left the job to Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan,” Justice Siddiqui was quoted as saying.
He also ordered IT Minister Anusha Rehman to appear before court and explain why the issue had not been resolved yet.
The hearing of the case will resume on March 31.

Our children need to be kept updated about new technologies from a younger age. That much no one has any qualms about, be it parents, policymakers and other stakeholders in the system. But when you take a look at the grass root level, where the mindset for the upcoming digital generation has to be developed, you see an educational system that is atrociously outdated.
How atrociously outdated are we talking about here? Well, for starters, adults would find it shocking that in this day and age, most Pakistani government and private schools either don’t consider computing a necessary subject worth teaching or teach kids courses that were relevant at least two decades ago.

Modern Schools Teaching Outdated Courses

Whether its private schools looting the public with outrageous fees or public schools claiming titles like ‘Smart’ and ‘modern’, Pakistani schools are teaching courses which became outdated during the pre-2000 era.
Computing as a subject for young students in most government schools is almost a no go. However, private schools which do offer the subject are digitally ancient. How ancient exactly you say? Even in this day and age, where Windows 10 is nearly two years old, those which do offer computing as a subject are basing their courses on Windows XP or even Windows 98!
It is common knowledge that most public schools don’t offer computer studies as a subject up until a student reaches Class VI. When they do start, students are taught age-old stuff based on Windows XP.
While some elite class private schools have decent computers with relatively updated operating systems which launched within the past decade, most private schools have outdated PCs running Windows XP.
Many commenters will say that there’s nothing wrong with running PCs with a decade or so old Operating Systems (owing to high license costs, exponential IT fees, etc.), but the truth of the matter is that these old OSes tend to incur a huge human as well as financial costs in hindsight. After all, the OSes of today boast better security and compatibility than Windows XP, which if you remember, was mired with viruses and was slated as “officially dead” by Microsoft.

Keeping Up With The Pace

When compared to other fields, computer technology and IT have been growing so rapidly that a decade’s worth of progress is made in just a year. You just can’t afford to sit back and let others pass you by.
As Pakistani schools continue to offer courses based on Windows XP or 98 – a 16 to 19 years old operating system mind you – and carry on using/teaching about extinct tech like floppy disks, CRT Monitors, magnetic tape disks and what not, the next generation becomes more distant to the current world of computing.
Not only is it problematic for the students during that stage of their life, but they have to overcome a huge knowledge barrier when they take computer studies related courses in universities which require them to be up to date with the latest trends in the field.
Google and Microsoft have been trying to introduce coding and latest technologies amongst the youth of Pakistan. What does this neanderthal approach to computing by Pakistani educational institutions contribute to?

Final Words

With the increasing usage of laptops and PCs among children, it places a huge burden on the current education system’s shoulders to educate the youth on the subject. We often see experts debate on educating the public on the proper use of internet, computers and other smart gadgets. If kids are not taught about the proper use of technology and developments in the field, Pakistani youth will never be able to reach their true potential.
Now the government needs to fix the educational system, update computer related courses and make it a compulsory subject during initial studies so that every Pakistani child has a basic understanding of the field when they grow up. This will also help in improving the students’ abilities when they start higher studies as they would be better prepared to deal with the latest requirements of the digital and connected era.

NADRA to Establish Centralized Online Visa System for Pakistan

The Interior Minister Chauhdry Nisar Ali Khan on Monday has directed NADRA to establish a centralized digital databank for issuance of visa to all foreigners issued through Pakistan missions across the globe.

The mechanism, he said, would help the foreigners to get an online visa appointment for any category of visas for travelling to Pakistan. At the same time it will bring transparency and clarity in to the system.
The Interior Minister was chairing a high-level meeting which was also attended by secretary interior, chairman NADRA, director general Air Wing and senior officers from Ministry of Interior.
The Interior Minister said that central digital databank of visa appointments and visa issuance mechanism would help the state to keep a check on all aliens visiting the country. It is pertinent to mention that on the directions of the Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan the letter written by the Prime Minister Office during the previous government authorizing our Ambassador in US to issue visas with approval from Islamabad was withdrawn in 2014.
The Interior Minister observed that there was still a need to make the whole exercise more transparent.
A lot has been done, he said, during the last three years to ensure that no alien should enter Pakistan without proper documents and these documents should duly be verified before issue.
He ordered NADRA to develop an online system for issuance of visas so that everything comes on the record and there is absolutely no space for irregularity.
The meeting also discussed the future of Ministry of Interior’s Air Wing post 2017. The Interior Minister said that: “Air cover of the Ministry of Interior is for its fight against terrorism, militancy, extremism, and drug peddlers in the most sensitive areas across Pak-Afghan border and specifically in Balochistan and it has been a source of great support for our security forces in this respect.”
The Interior Minister directed the Ministry to prepare a plan whereby “the Air Wing continue to provide its support to our security agencies post 2017.”
The Interior Minister also imposed a ban on NADRA from taking buildings on rent basis besides also refraining it from purchasing land on commercial rates for establishment of its offices.
The Interior Minister also directed NADRA to review the rates given to private contractors for renovation of NADRA mega centers and all its centers across Pakistan.
The Interior Minister also asked NADRA to establish new rules and regulations for infusing transparency for hiring private contractors since public money is not meant for doling out favors to the contractor mafia.
The Interior Minister said that NADRA should approach all the provincial governments for purchasing of land for its offices on government rates. The interior minister gave one week deadline to NADRA for putting up a proposal in regards to establishment rules and regulations for the contractors and settling their rates for construction / renovation.
He said that looking at the financial wrongdoings of the past over the purchase of land and building on rent purposes NADRA it is imperative that such practice should be stopped for good.
National Technology Limited, a software company established by NADRA, was also closed down on the orders of the Interior Minister. The Interior Minister said that NTL was source of financial misappropriation and has been closed down mainly to plug financial bungling. He said that despite the closure of NTL the international commitments of NADRA would not be effected since requisite amendments would be done to address NADRA’s international obligations and contracts with foreign institutions and countries.

Rs. 500 Notes Without OVI Flag are Legit: State Bank

State Bank of Pakistan has clarified that Rs. 500 currency notes without OVI (Optical Variable Ink) are legitimate.

Central bank issued this clarification in response to some sections of social media reports regarding authenticity of Rs 500 banknotes without OVI flag.

State Bank said that it had introduced new design banknotes of Rs 500 in 2006. These banknotes carry state of the art security features, besides, change in size, design and color scheme.

Later on another security feature, the color shifting flag made of Optical Variable Ink (OVI) was added to enhance the anti-counterfeiting resilience and ease in identification by the general public.
This, however, resulted in availability of both types of Rs 500 banknotes viz issued during 2006-2009 without OVI, and issued w.e.f January 25, 2010 with OVI feature.
“It is, therefore, clarified for benefit of all concerned that new design banknotes of Rs 500, with and without OVI flag, are genuine provided all other security features are intact”, said the central bank of Pakistan.
It said that everyone is encouraged to learn more about the security features in Pakistani banknotes through SBP’s official website.

Sima Kamil is the New CEO of UBL

The board of directors at United Bank Limited (UBL) finally made a much-awaited announcement in the banking sector, which is the appointment of Sima Kamil as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and President of UBL in the place of Wajahat Hussain.

Serving as a Deputy CEO UBL, Sima will take her new role in June, 01, 2017 after the approval of regulatory authority as per Fit and Proper test clearance of State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).
Her predecessor Wajahat Hussain will continue his contract for next couple of months till May, 31, 2017. Afterwards, he will not serve the bank in any of the role even as the director, as he is not interested in renewing his contract at the bank, according to the announcement made by board of directors in a meeting held recently.

Designated CEO Sima Kamil

Sima Kamil could be the first female CEO of a major bank in Pakistan. Previously, there were many women who assumed the role of CEO and President of First Women Bank Limited, the specialized women bank.
Sima is a career banker with over 25 years’ experience. Since 2011, she was serving as Head of Branch Banking at HBL, responsible for more than 1,600 branches network including Retail, Consumer, SME, Rural Banking and Wealth Management segments.
Sima is also leading the development of HBL’s Women’s Market program. She is currently Director of HBL Asset Management Co. Ltd., Chair of the Board of Governors of Karachi Grammar School and on the Board of the NotreDame Institute of Education. She has a degree in business from Kingston University, UK, and an MBA from City University, London.

Outgoing CEO Wajahat Hussain

Wajahat Hussain has been long associated with UBL and was appointed as CEO and President back in 2014 after departure of Atif Bokhari, who later joined NIB Bank as CEO and President.
Before his role as CEO, his last assignment was as Senior Executive Vice President, Group Executive responsible for managing the bank’s International business which comprises of branches, representative offices, subsidiaries and associate companies in different countries.
He came in the limelight a couple of weeks ago, when he was reportedly stopped by the central bank
to attend a conference with a group of bankers in Thailand.
There are rumors that he was fired on the instruction of the banking regulatory which was categorically rejected by the authorities and bank.
However, the controversy continued as the tax authority reportedly initiated an inquiry against him for concealing wealth overseas.
The board of directors in his recent statement acknowledged his services for the bank which include various prestigious awards won by the bank during the period of his service

How does it even relate to blogging? Well it relates to blogging because it's the exact same principle. There's going to be times when you're going to fail. There's going to be times where you're going to give up and quit but you just have to know that, just like riding a bicycle blogging also has a few learning curves you have to go through, especially if you try to learn how to make money blogging. There's going to be a few things you're going to have to learn. Let's talk about those three things that I promise you I was going to talk about.
 Before you write your first blog post, before you buy your domain name, before you even turn on your computer, you need to take out a note pad. On that note pad, you need to write down who are you going to be targeting, who was going to be your target market. Your target market is what's going to determine what you're going to be blogging about. A lot of people have this misconception that if you just blog about anything you're just going to start rolling in the dough. It does not work like that. You have to blog about the type of things that your target market is interested in. If you're just blogging just to blog, just to put your thoughts out there, cool it doesn't apply to you but if you're blogging to make money, you need to have a specific target market that you're marketing to because if you try to you know just blog for everybody, you're not going to make any money blogging. I'm just going to be real because like if you go to some people's blogs, it's like one day they'll talk about the rain, one day they'll talk about dogs and cats, the next day they'll talk about basketball. Google watches everything you do on your blog, on your website and they determine where you get ranked based on the amount of relevancy that you have. Ever since the new like panda and penguin algorithm push is not as much like, it's not really about how many back ends you have anymore, it's more about being relevant. If your blog is just like everywhere,
going everywhere it wants, no specific subject, Google is going to see that and when your blog post get indexed, it's going to be like "Okay, this guy does not always talk about how to get network marketing leads," so, I'm just going to put his post back here in tat the end of the search engine but if you had a specific blog about a specific subject, like it doesn't have to be like really strict but it needs to be in that area. If you have a blog about gardening, you don't only have to just talk about one type of gardening.
You can have tomatoes, how to plant cucumbers, all kind of stuff but it needs to be one specific subject, you see what I'm saying, because if you're everywhere, you're going to attract all kinds of traffic that is not related to the stuff that you're trying to sell and if you want to make money blogging you need to be as specific as possible. What's the next step you want to make money blogging now that you've decided on your target market, the next thing you need to do is your keyword research.
This is vital right here. You cannot afford anymore just go out there and just blog about random stuff for your target market. You need to know exactly what the search is for so how to do this right here. You can use a tool called the Google keyword research tool, the keyword planner now and you can type in the type of words that your target market is going to be searching for. Let's say you don't know the type of words that your target market's after, where can you find words like that? Well, a good place to are Facebook groups.
You can look in there and see what type of stuff they talk about. You can go on there to the forums to see what types of stuff they talk about. You can read the type of magazines that your target market reads and get ideas from that. There are literally billions upon billions of keywords out there that you can target. The next important thing you need to realize about keywords is when you're new, you really should not go after like super competitive keywords until you get your confidence up as far as ranking stuff
on Google. You want to make sure that you go after keywords and not only get traffic but also attract buyer traffic. What's the good example of that? You want to make sure you do the long tail keywords, that's vital right there, a lot of people don't. They just go after the base keyword and so much competition. Additional Discounts from Payment Partners

Daraz offers all payment options to its customers, from Cash on Delivery (COD), to debit/credit cards, mobile wallets, and the recently introduced internet bank transfer (IBFT).
This year, Easypay will be offering additional up to 15% off when customers pay through Easypay payment methods, plus an additional 5% off to customers purchasing through the Daraz app.
Customers can pay with Easypay by using their debit/credit cards, Easypaisa mobile accounts or via any of the 75,000 Easypaisa Shops.
Additionally, customers who use their Standard Chartered Bank, Meezan Bank, MCB or JS Bank credit/debit card during The Grand Green Sale can avail an additional up to 30% off across all categories. To be prepared, customers should call their bank and ensure their card is activated for online purchases – it’s a quick 2 minute procedure.
